Tina Burchill RSHom: Newsletter Editor and Media Consultant

Tina Burchill joined the Society’s team early in 2004, when she took on the role of Newsletter editor. Her initial brief was to implement a major re-design, making good use of her 16 years experience in the field of journalism. The result was the precursor of the Newsletter as it is today. Tina stresses that it is constantly evolving with the aim of improving with each issue. The job is wide ranging, involving both the big picture - planning and co-ordinating all editorial copy and photographs – and the miniscule details of writing picture captions and making sure everything fits as it should.

At the time she took on the role, Tina was a third year student at the School of Homeopathy in Devon, having discovered homeopathy in 1997 when her then baby son developed severe eczema. She qualified in June 2005 and set up a clinic in her local area. In January 2006, she took over a corporate homeopathy clinic at the head office of a newspaper group in London, which she continues to run on a fortnightly basis. In October 2007, Tina was appointed media consultant. Working as part of the communication team, she is involved in all aspects of communication, both in getting information out to members and the public, and in helping to implement the Society’s media strategy. Her journalistic career spans eight years as a reporter on local newspapers, including the Gloucestershire Echo, the Lancashire Evening Post and the Leicester Mercury, followed by two years as assistant news editor on the Leicester Mercury, a post she left in 1996 when her son was born. She continued to do freelance work, and had features published in The Telegraph, The Times and The Guardian, as well as parent/baby magazines.

Before discovering homeopathy she gained a degree in Biological Sciences (specialising in Physiology) from the University of Birmingham. It was the experience of conducting a final-year research project for this degree that sparked a life-long interest in research. Rachel is a visiting lecturer at various colleges in the UK and overseas, teaching all aspects of the homeopathic and medical science syllabuses. Rachel was a speaker at the Society of Homeopath’s Conference in 2005 and the Student Conference in 2007.
